Part of the Tactile Wall Art Collection by Maria Grujicic Studio, this original design was created in Darwin, Australia as part of The Tactile Wall Art Project. This artwork began through a tactile process of exploration and discovery. Using frottage rubbings from dried leaves gathered beneath native Australian trees in Darwin, Maria transformed found textures into a layered visual journey inspired by movement, memory, and touch. The piece evolved from an ephemeral sculpture created with reused materials—including cardboard and foil—giving discarded materials a new life through art rather than landfill. Crayons, chalk, watercolour, and oil pastels were combined using Maria’s own creative methods, informed by years of Montessori training and a belief that learning begins through hands-on sensory experience. Flowing forms and layered textures were created to evoke tactile sensations—echoing the feeling of movement found in natural environments and places like beaches, where textures, water, sand, and changing surfaces invite curiosity and connection.
