Original frottage artwork transformed into a flowing wearable composition.
This artist-designed skirt features an original frottage print developed from my studio practice. The artwork began through rubbing and surface-transfer techniques, creating layered marks, irregular textures and organic forms that were then adapted for fabric.
For the skirt, the artwork moves across a lightweight, multi-panel silhouette in rich red, plum, mauve and warm ochre tones. The asymmetric wrap-style construction and softly pleated hem allow different areas of the artwork to appear as the garment moves.
Designed as part of the Frottage Study wearable-art collection, the skirt extends the same original artwork used in the matching Frottage Study Racerback Dress, translating it into a different silhouette while retaining the tactile, process-led character of the original work.
Designed in Darwin, Australia, this piece can be styled simply with a fitted top, singlet or tee, or dressed up with boots, sandals and layered pieces.
