Trace, Line & Paint is a Montessori-inspired educator resource for children aged 4–9.

This calm, low-prep art activity introduces children to tracing, line-making and watercolour pencil exploration using found objects and simple materials from home. It is inspired by the Montessori metal inset process, while offering accessible alternatives for families, homeschoolers, classrooms, clubs and community learning environments.

Children explore shape, size, placement, repeated lines, brush control and colour activation through a slow, process-led sequence:

Trace • Draw Lines • Dip • Dab • Paint • Explore

This resource supports:

  • fine-motor control

  • hand-eye coordination

  • concentration

  • careful use of materials

  • creative decision-making

Includes:

  • adapting the activity for different ages
